AFIF 2019 CHARITY GOLF DAY – Thursday 8 August 2019 – Registration Filling Fast - Be Quick   

As ever, there has been a great response to the AFIF Charity Golf Day with registrations filling fast. If you are registering a team or individual place, be quick!

The AFIF Annual Charity Golf Day has become an institution, with over $250,000 raised for the various beneficiary charities. This year, we will return again to the fantastic Macquarie Links International Golf Club on Thursday 8th August 2019 for an enjoyable day of Ambrose golf in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association of NSW.

Registration is open for teams and individual players. Sponsorship opportunities. We will be holding raffles on the day, items donated for inclusion for the raffles are most welcome! Details and registration forms in Weekly News


DP World Protected Industrial Action - 96 hours Stoppage in Melbourne and 48 hours Stoppages in Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantle Underway - Why is it So?

DP World Australia and the MUA are embroiled in extended Protected Industrial Action underway this week in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle. 48 hours and 96 hours stoppages are impacting industry, with the inevitable bottlenecks and backlogs to follow upon the resumption of operations. dnata CTO Notice - Melbourne Terminal Equipment Outage – Update    

Further to the AFIF Bulletin last Thursday, AFIF has been in contact with dnata CTO Melbourne throughout the equipment outage.  dnata advise that the extent of the repairs to the ULD truck hoist at Door 6 have been greater than first expected. The repairs are being undertaken off-site and are expected to be completed and the hoist operable again by Monday 15 July, possibly sooner. Details of contingency arrangements in Weekly News

Home Affairs-ABF – Common Indicators of Illicit Tobacco Importations – Checklist for Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers

From 1 July 2019, tobacco is a prohibited import. Importers are required to have a permit to import tobacco products. Freight Forwarders’ employees involved in front line activities such as Sales, Customer Service, Import Breakbulk, Reception, Freight Counter, Customs Clearance and Warehouse may inadvertently encounter an illegal importation of tobacco. Home Affairs-ABF have issued an Illicit Tobacco Indicators Sheet which may be useful for distributing to your staff. Details in Weekly News

Home Affairs-ABF – Joint Operation Leads to Half a Tonne of 'Ice' Seized, Four Arrests in Sydney  

ABF officers examined a container declared to contain clothing at the Sydney Container Examination Facility in June 2019. During a subsequent deconstruction of the consignment, six of the 10 pallets were found to contain 500 packages of a white crystalline substance, containing a total of 500kg of methylamphetamine, which has an estimated potential street value of $375 million. DoAG - Plant Export Management System (PEMS)   

The Plant Export Management System (PEMS) was launched nationally on 31 May 2019 via IAN 2019-20. PEMS captures most plant and plant products inspections as well as in-transit cold treatment (ITCT) calibrations. The use of PEMS for the export of plants and plant products will be mandatory from May 2020, either directly or via software integration with an existing electronic system. Details in Weekly News

WestConnex Announcement – New M4 Tunnels Will Open this Saturday 13 July

The New M4 Tunnels will open this Saturday 13 July. With three lanes in each direction, the tunnels extend the widened M4 underground between Homebush and Haberfield, avoiding up to 22 sets of traffic lights on the alternative Parramatta Rd. Useful information and further details in Weekly News.

Happy Birthday Barry Vining  

Included in the FIATA Review is an item on milestone Birthday Congratulations to former FIATA Vice-President, Barry Vining who celebrated his 80th birthday on 6 June 2019. Barry served on the board of AFIF and AFIF’s predecessor body AFAFF, for 24 years from 1975 to 1999, 7 years as Chairman. More in the Weekly News

IATA – May Air Freight Volumes Remain Weak 

IATA released data for global air freight markets showing that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometres (FTKs), decreased by 3.4% in May 2019, compared to the same period in 2018. This was a slight improvement on the 5.6% contraction in April.  Asia-Pacific airlines saw demand for air freight contract by a hefty 6.4% in May 2019, compared to the same period in 2018. FIATA World Congress 2019 Capetown

The FIATA World Congress will be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa and will bring together global leaders, a comprehensive program and sessions by industry leaders, presenting innovative and relevant discussions. The 2019 Congress theme is "Where Technology and Logistics Meet" and the Congress Program will focus on new technology and disruptive innovation and how this affects the Logistics and Freight Forwarding Industry worldwide. IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Training Validity/Expiry   

If you or your staff hold IMDG Certification under IMDG Code 2016, the expiry date is 31st December 2019 - then you must complete a 1 day IMDG Re-certification course BEFORE 31 December 2019, to remain certified.  Failure to do so will require undertaking the 2 day IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Full Acceptance Course.
