Recently a number of CFS Container Unpacking Depots have introduced an International Terminal Fee or an Infrastructure Levy. In an open market, operators have the right to make commercial decisions affecting their business operations. However, what has changed? Is this a new fee for doing the same thing essentially? DIBP / ABF – Deficient Information and Errors in Cargo Reports - ABF will use Sanction - INS Penalties and Licence Cancellation

AFIF met with Acting Commander Customs Compliance, Stephen Hledik in Canberra on Tuesday and discussed the ABF’s position on cargo reporting compliance. In short, whilst the deficient information in cargo reports is improving, the overall error rate has not improved. The number of errors are still too high. Liability of Employees for Dutiable Goods - Relief for Australian Warehouses and Freight Forwarders   

Further to the item in the AFIF Weekly News March 2, concerning the determination of the AAT, holding those operating a licensed warehouse liable for amounts equivalent to customs duty. In the case, liability expanded beyond the licensee itself to individual directors and officers of the licensee. This Decision has been overturned in the Federal Court. LLDCN Becomes DCN Again - 'Daily Cargo News'  

Following the purchase of Lloyds List Australia by Sydney-based Paragon Media earlier this year, the new owners have announced the change of publication name back to the DCN acronym. Those with long memories will remember the DCN as the Daily Commercial News until 1993 when it became Lloyds List. The DCN re-launched today as Daily Cargo News. Details in Weekly News.

DCN 22nd Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards

One of the first tasks for the DCN team is the presentation of the annual Australian Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards – now coming up to its 22nd anniversary – making it one of the longest-running national maritime awards event in the world. This year the event will be held at Sydney’s Sofitel Sydney Wentworth Hotel on Thursday, November 16. Sponsorships, nominations, and bookings are now open. Freight Forwarder of the Year Award – Have you Nominated Your Company

DAWR - Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Risk Season 2017-18 – Update

DAWR has issued a Notice to operators of Approved Arrangement (AA) sites that receive specific goods from the United States or Italy to be extra vigilant for the presence of these BMSB insects when unpacking goods from the Northern Hemisphere during the BMSB risk season.  The season coincides with the period when the insects actively seeking shelter from winter conditions in homes, buildings, vehicles, machinery, often in large numbers. Next CTAA Container Logistics Awareness Workshop – AFIF Members Discount - Melbourne 18 October 2017                                                         

Our fellow industry association in Supply Chain, CTAA is hosting a Container Logistics Awareness Workshop in Melbourne on Wednesday 18 October 2017. The aim of the Workshop is to raise the level of understanding of course participants about the whole Port Supply Chain. The Workshop is designed to be “hands-on” and interactive, with a mix of classroom delivery, as well as a physical visit to an empty container park, a transport yard and to a stevedore terminal.  Discount Registration form & details in Weekly News

Reminder: Shipping Industry Golf Challenge 2017, Sydney, Tuesday October 24th

For the past 18 years, the Shipping Industry golf day has raised funds for the Oncology Unit at the Westmead Children’s Hospital and last year event saw the total donation to the hospital breaking through the $600,000 barrier and confirming the shipping industry’s status as being an Official Benefactor of the hospital. IMDG Code Change - Renew before 31st December 2017  

The IMDG Code changes every two years and your accreditation is only valid whilst the edition of the IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code) in which you have been trained is effective.
