DoA - Biosecurity Imports Levy – Minister for Agriculture Releases the Steering Committee Report – Decision Timeline Not Indicated
On Tuesday, the Minister for Agriculture, Bridget McKenzie released the BIL Steering Committee Report publicly and a Statement, citing, “This industry report is a critical piece of the puzzle and the government will respond in due course.” As a member of the BIL Steering Committee, AFIF is concerned that there is still no definitive time-frame when a decision will be made on the BIL levy base, rate and collection method and when the legislation will be presented to Parliament. IATA Requires IATA Cargo Agents to Submit Employee ULD Handling Certification, or non-Handling Declaration, by 30 September 2019 Deadline – Non-Compliance Action to Commence
In June, AFIF advised members that IATA had written to all IATA Cargo Agents handling Unit Load Devices (ULDs) to submit details of employees holding a valid ULD Certificate - or a non-handling declaration - by 5 September 2019. This week, IATA issued a Notice to IATA Cargo Agents advising the final deadline for submission of the details is 30 September 2019. Non-compliance will trigger IATA action, with the Cargo Agent placed on review by the Cargo Agency Commissioner. Details in Weekly News

DoA Notice to Industry - How You Can Help the Department Next BMSB Season – Booking an Inspection Factsheet Released
DoA have put together information about how consolidators, forwarders and importers can assist to help avoid unnecessary delays this BMSB season. The information relates to document assessment, inspection bookings and the call centre. VICT - Extended Weekend Opening Hours this Sunday 15th September
Due to vessel bunching over this coming weekend, VICT will be running a full day shift and a full night shift from 06:00 hours on Sunday 15th September. Therefore the terminal will remain open until 14:00 hours on Saturday 21st September
NSW Ports and Patrick Terminals Commence Work on $190 million Project to Double ‘On-dock’ Rail Capacity at Port Botany – Repeated
NSW Ports and Patrick Terminals have commenced work on a $190 million project to double ‘on-dock’ rail infrastructure capacity at Port Botany’s Patrick Terminals - Sydney AutoStrad™, ensuring a sustainable supply chain that will meet the future trade needs of Sydney’s growing population. The rail project will deliver capacity to handle 1 million TEUs on rail at Port Botany’s Patrick Terminals - Sydney AutoStrad™ and improve train turn-around times by 33 per cent. Final Call: Up to $7,000 Available for Women’s Leadership Development
Women currently working in the transport and logistics sector have a final opportunity to register their interest in a scholarship worth up to $7,000 to support participation in an accredited leadership development program. IATA – Trade War Impacting Air Freight Demand – July 2019 Result
IATA released data for global air freight markets showing that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometres (FTKs), contracted by 3.2% in July 2019, compared to the same period in 2018. This marks the 9th consecutive month of year-on-year decline in freight volumes. Asia-Pacific airlines saw demand for air freight contract by 4.9% in July 2019, compared to the same period in 2018.
