Tyne ACFS Update and Client Notification After Fatal Incident  

Container park operator Tyne ACFS advises it is cooperating with authorities following a fatal incident at Sydney’s Port Botany on Wednesday, as it extends its sympathies towards the deceased worker’s family, friends and work colleagues. Reports indicate a 64-year-old was killed after he became trapped between two empty shipping containers. Tyne ACFS have provided an update of the situation and container operations. DoA has provided an update on progress of 2020 BMSB Season and developments to date, including BMSB Policy and Systems Update including Master Consolidators information; Offshore Treatment Providers Scheme; Vessels; Approved Arrangements. Freight Forwarders and Master Consolidators Beware – Overseas Treatment Providers Rejecting ‘Too Full’ Containers for Treatment   

DoA has advised AFIF that some overseas treatment providers are rejecting containers which have been packed too full and are unable to be properly treated. DoA and NZ Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) have published a joint Factsheet on BMSB Consignment Suitability, detailing the packing requirements for treatment providers to effectively treat consignments of target high risk goods. ABF Seizes 123 tonnes of Illicit Tobacco in Two Months as New Regulations Come Into Effect   

ABF officers have seized more than 123 tonnes of illicit tobacco at the border in just two months, after new regulations came into effect declaring the commodity a prohibited import. The 123 tonnes consisted of more than 87 tonnes of illicit loose leaf/molasses tobacco and 47.9 million cigarettes, which was all seized between 1 July 2019 and 31 August 2019. Last financial year, the ABF detected more than 300 tonnes of illicit tobacco and 426 million cigarette sticks. This represents an estimated evaded duty of $633 million. Full report in Weekly News

ABF Border Watch has seen an increase in scammers targeting industry members, using sophisticated methods to defraud customs brokers, freight forwarders, warehouses and depots, shipping and transport companies. IATA Requires IATA Cargo Agents to Submit Employee ULD Handling Certification, or non-Handling Declaration, by 30 September 2019 Deadline – Non-Compliance Action to Commence

In June, AFIF advised members that IATA had written to all IATA Cargo Agents handling Unit Load Devices (ULDs) to submit details of employees holding a valid ULD Certificate - or a non-handling declaration - by 5 September 2019. This week, IATA issued a Notice to IATA Cargo Agents advising the final deadline for submission of the details is 30 September 2019. Non-compliance will trigger IATA action, with the Cargo Agent placed on review by the Cargo Agency Commissioner. Details in Weekly News

IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Training Validity/Expiry  

If you or your staff hold IMDG Certification under IMDG Code 2016, the expiry date is 31st December 2019 - then you must complete a 1 day IMDG Re-certification course BEFORE 31 December 2019, to remain certified.  Failure to do so will require undertaking the 2 day IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Full Acceptance Course.
