AFIF has responded to overwhelming members’ feedback to hold the AFIF Conference 2018 in Sydney this year. As the AFIF Conference 2018 will be in a major city, the 1 Day program will be focussed on providing vital important content and speakers tackling the topics and issues members need. Draft program and details of limited sponsorship and exhibition packages for this exciting 1 day event will be released very soon.  Circle Friday 25 May in your diary, it’s shaping up to be the annual industry event not to be missed and we’re hoping to see you there!


Return of Empty Import Containers to Australian Shipping Terminals (Port Stevedores) Only – Maersk Line Commences Today - Implications for Industry

Today Maersk Line joins other shipping lines, OOCL, ANL (CMA-CGM), Hamburg Süd and COSCO in requiring customers to return empty containers to the stevedore at the port only, instead of the option of an empty container park. Empty container parks will reject acceptance of empty containers where they have been directed to be returned to the stevedore at the port. Hart Krtschil AM – Australia Day 2018 Honours List 

Upon the release of the Australia Day 2018 Honours List, industry icon, Hart Krtschil, who sadly passed away in September of 2016 after a brave and lengthy battle with cancer, received an award in the General Division and for eternity will be a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.  Full details of the Award and history of Hart’s significant achievements and service to the industry in the Weekly News

DAWR: Addition of the United States of America to list of Countries able to meet Australia’s Enhanced Import Conditions for Uncooked Prawns and Uncooked Prawn Products

As of 24 January, trade in prawns and prawn products exported from the United States of America can resume. The United States of America joins Argentina, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Denmark, India, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam as countries that have provided written confirmation to the department that they can meet the enhanced import conditions. Revised AADA Bunker Surcharge - North and East Asia 

Shipping Australia has advised AFIF that in accordance with the established review procedures the bunker surcharge which member lines apply to privately negotiated freighting arrangements is to be increased by US$25/teu and US$50/feu to US$350/teu and US$700/feu with effect from 4th March, 2018. Port of Brisbane Access Information 

A-double road trains and Super B-double combinations are prohibited from using the Lucinda Drive Bridge. Entry to and exit from Fisherman Islands should be via Port Drive. There are contingency arrangements for roadworks.  Details in Weekly News

IATA Dangerous Goods 59th Edition ADDENDUM

IATA has issued an Addendum to the 2018, 59th Edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, effective immediately. Users of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations are asked to note the amendments and advise all concerned Link in the Weekly News.

US TSA Announces New Cargo Screening for Middle East Flights to USA – Australia’s OTS Response – Repeated

The US Transport Security Administration has brought in a new set of rules for air cargo coming from five Muslim-majority Middle Eastern nations. Cargo in planes headed to the US from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will all face additional screening. AFIF took up this issue with OTS, if there are any implications for cargo from these ports to Australia, or, cargo to USA transhipped through the Middle East. Details in Weekly News

ABF Border Watch Included in AFIF Basic Training Courses from February 

AFIF and ABF have joined forces to provide Border Watch training in AFIF’s basic training courses, to educate new entrants to the industry of the threats posed to the border by criminal activity. From February, local Co-ordinators of ABF Border Watch will provide a Border Watch presentation to students attending the AFIF Basic Import Airfreight Procedures and AFIF Basic Import and Export Sea Freight Procedures courses in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Next CTAA Port Container Logistics Awareness Workshop - AFIF Members Discount - Sydney Tuesday 20 February 2018 and Melbourne 27 February 2018 

Our fellow industry association in Supply Chain, CTAA is hosting a Port Container Logistics Awareness Workshop in Sydney on Tuesday 20 February and Melbourne on Tuesday 27 February 2018. The aim of the Workshop is to raise the level of understanding of course participants about the whole Port Supply Chain. The Workshop is designed to be “hands-on” and interactive, with a mix of classroom delivery, as well as a physical visit to an empty container park, a transport yard and to a stevedore terminal. CTAA Contractor Management Breakfast Seminar - Brisbane - 22 February 2018 

CTAA is holding a breakfast seminar in Brisbane, covering the engagement of contractors and the legislative pitfalls involved with Australian Taxation Office, Fair Work Australia, Superannuation Guarantee legislation, Personal Services Income legislation, Workcover safety & compensation obligations, the new Chain of Responsibility (CoR) laws due in mid-2018 and the Queensland Government’s Labour Hire Licensing Act 2017. Shipping Australia Ltd invites AFIF Members to the SAL NSW Golf Day on 28 February 2018, at the scenic Coast Course at Little Bay, close to Port Botany and the city. ONE Unveils its Global Network and Prepares to Take First Cargo Bookings  

The Ocean Network Express (ONE) alliance of K Line, MOL and NYK Lines Ocean Network Express (ONE) has published details of its ONE network of services, as its website and bookings go live from 1 February. ONE said that from 1 April, more than 200 container vessels would be deployed on the regional trades of intra-Asia, Latin America, Oceania and African connecting more than 200 ports.
