AFIF 2019 CHARITY GOLF DAY – Save the Date - Thursday 8 August 2019 

The AFIF Annual Charity Golf Day has become an institution, with over $250,000 raised for the various beneficiary charities. This year, we will return again to the fantastic Macquarie Links International Golf Club on Thursday 8th August 2019 for an enjoyable day of Ambrose golf. Details to Follow shortly.

Important Notice – IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Training Validity/Expiry   

If you or your staff hold IMDG Certification under IMDG Code 2016, the expiry date is 31st December 2019 - then you must complete a 1 day IMDG Re-certification course BEFORE 31 December 2019, to remain certified.  Failure to do so will require undertaking the 2 day IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Full Acceptance Course. IATA Requires IATA Cargo Agents to Submit Employee ULD Handling Certification by 5 September 2019 – Validation 

Further to the item in last week’s AFIF Weekly News, regarding the IATA letter and attachments sent to IATA Cargo Agents. If an IATA Cargo Agent handles the loading of ULDs - complete the details of the certified staff in the ‘Agent LDR’ Excel attachment provided by IATA and return the form to IATA. If an IATA Cargo Agent doesn’t handle the loading of ULDs - sign the ‘Self-declaration of non-handling ULD Agent’ attachment provided by IATA and return the form to IATA. AFIF Adds More Load Distribution and Restraint Training Course Dates 

AFIF has added 9 more dates for the IATA compliant Load Distribution and Restraint Training Course, for Members requiring to update staff training certification to meet IATA compliance requirements. Bookings can be made on the AFIF Training weblink - Load Distribution and Restraint Course

Qantas Non-Stop Flights Brisbane to Chicago and San Francisco from April 20 

Qantas will start non-stop flights from Brisbane to Chicago and San Francisco from April. The flights will operate four times a week to Chicago and three times a week to San Francisco. Details in Weekly News  

Air Cargo Security – EMIS Metal Detectors – Clarification of Application

Smiths Detection have received a number of enquiries from the market concerning metal detectors and their capability in detecting needles and metal contaminants. Specifically, to clarify and confirm the difference between Air Cargo metal detectors and Food Safety/Quality control metal detectors. AFIF Model Standard Terms and Conditions Amended in Response to ACCC Findings – New Version Emailed to AFIF Members This Week

AFIF has sent to AFIF Members this week, the revised AFIF Model Terms and Conditions and User Guide. If you have not received a copy please send your contact details to afif@afif.asn.au  AFIF has considered the AFIF Model STCs and amended clauses 12 and 13 to provide AFIF Members with further protections against scrutiny for unfair terms by the regulator. Home Affairs-ABF – Certificate of Origin Waiver Benefit for Australian Trusted Traders 

As of 28 June 2019, Australian Trusted Trader importers will no longer be required to obtain or present origin certification documents, such as a Certificate of Origin (CoO) or Declaration of Origin (DoO), in order to claim preferential rates of duty under certain free trade agreements (FTAs). DOAG – Measures for 2019-20 BMSB Risk Season Announced 

Further to the item in last week’s AFIF Weekly News, DOAG has finalised the measures for 2019-20 BMSB risk season. For the 2019-20 BMSB risk season, measures will apply to: goods manufactured in, or shipped from target risk countries, and/or vessels that berth at, load or tranship from target risk countries from 1 September 2019 and that arrive in Australian territory by 31 May 2020 (inclusive). DOAG – 3D X-Ray Now Permanently in Place at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport

Minister for Agriculture, Bridget McKenzie has announced the completion of a trial of a 3D X-Ray unit at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. The new unit automatically detects biosecurity risks in fruit and vegetables that passengers fail to declare, and could be expanded to target significant biosecurity threats such as high-risk seeds and meat. NHVR – New South Wales Class 3 Port Botany Container Transportation Mass Exemption Notice 2019 – (Stevedore to CFS)

The New South Wales Class 3 Port Botany Container Transportation Mass Exemption Notice 2019  allows eligible heavy vehicles carrying over-mass freight containers to operate above General Mass Limits (GML). This concession only applies when transporting standard shipping containers from an approved Stevedore Terminal to an approved Container Freight Station (CFS) along an approved route. 3% Increase to the Minimum Wage from 1 July 2019 – Mills Oakley – Repeated

The Fair Work Commission has delivered its decision with respect to the 2018/2019 annual wage review. Following its review, the Commission has decided to increase minimum rates from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2019. Employers must review their rates of pay to ensure that employees are at all times being paid no less than the minimum wage.  Harsh penalties of up to $126,000 apply to employers who fail to meet their minimum wage obligations.
