Qantas CTO Announces Update to Export Storage Fees

AFIF has received a number of calls from members querying Qantas Freight’s decision to charge storage on export cargo lodged more than 24 hours prior to flight departure. Last week, AFIF CEO, Brian Lovell took up the issue with Qantas Head of Freight Operations, Colin Hughes, who advised that Qantas Freight has taken the decision to apply storage fees on export cargo lodged more than 24 hours prior to flight departure, primarily due to increased congestion in the terminals in the lead up to the introduction of enhanced screening regulation from 1 March 2019. AMSD – Update following Meeting of Air Cargo Security Industry Forum (ACSIAF) – Homogenous Cargo

AMSD will be issuing a Fact Sheet confirming the definition of Homogenous cargo soon. The definition will likely be similar to the current definition of homogenous for USA-bound cargo. AMSD’s reluctance to accept AFIF’s proposed adjustments to the definition of homogenous cargo will lead to more consignments lodged at the CTOs as loose pieces, further compounding congestion, cargo flows and extended cut-off times -  irrespective of whether the cargo is screened at an off-airport provider or at the CTO.
