AFIF 2019 CHARITY GOLF DAY – Thursday 8 August 2019 – Registration Open  

The AFIF Annual Charity Golf Day has become an institution, with over $250,000 raised for the various beneficiary charities. This year, we will return again to the fantastic Macquarie Links International Golf Club on Thursday 8th August 2019 for an enjoyable day of Ambrose golf in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association of NSW.

Registration is now open for teams and individual players. Sponsorship opportunities. We will be holding raffles on the day, items donated for inclusion for the raffles are most welcome! Details and registration forms in Weekly News


Home Affairs-ABF Restructure - Customs Group Established 

Home Affairs-ABF has announced a structural change in the Department with the establishment of the Customs Group, which now sits within the Australian Border Force. The Customs Group encompasses trade and customs related policy, customs related compliance and industry engagement. Home Affairs – Restructure, AMSD and Organisational Chart

Following the establishment of the Customs Group within ABF, the Department of Home Affairs has released a new Organisational Chart. Container Logistics Interface Costs Rise from July 2019

DP World Protected Industrial Action Lifted - Excluding Stoppages

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) issued an interim order which lifts all Protected Industrial Action excluding previously notified planned employee stoppages at DPWA terminals until further notice. Planned stoppage in Melbourne Friday 5 July 2019 - 4 hours from 1200 – 1600. Notice in Weekly News

DoAG - Plant Export Management System (PEMS)   

The Plant Export Management System (PEMS) was launched nationally on 31 May 2019 via IAN 2019-20. PEMS captures most plant and plant products inspections as well as in-transit cold treatment (ITCT) calibrations. The use of PEMS for the export of plants and plant products will be mandatory from May 2020, either directly or via software integration with an existing electronic system. Details in Weekly News

DoAG – Offshore BMSB Treatment Providers Scheme and Application Forms  

DOAG and the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries have introduced a joint Offshore BMSB Treatment Providers Scheme. The scheme sets out the minimum registration and compliance requirements for treatment providers conducting BMSB treatments offshore. Moorebank Logistics Park IMEX Terminal Commencing Operation in Q3 2019 – Repeated  

The Moorebank Logistics Park IMEX Terminal is expected to commence operations in Q3 2019. AFIF attended an information session at the Moorebank Logistics Park IMEX Terminal, presented by Moorebank Intermodal Company (MIC), Qube and the Australian Logistics Council (ALC) to explain the open access arrangements for industry. Moorebank Logistics Park IMEX Terminal Open Access Protocol – Submissions Close on Monday 8 July

Industry feedback on the new Moorebank Terminal development is positive, though is seeking further details of the open access protocols to allay concerns about SIMTA (Qube) developing and operating the facility and how this may impact other users of the site, commercially and operationally. The Open Access Protocol documents have been released to the public for comment. Submissions close on Monday 8 July. Details and links in the Weekly News

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport – Massive Million Tonnes Milestone Reached on Airport Site – Repeated

Construction of Western Sydney International Airport has reached a major milestone, having moved one million cubic metres of earth on site. One million cubic metres of earth down, with a whopping 21 million to go – that’s enough earth to fill 8,800 Olympic Swimming pools. IATA Requires IATA Cargo Agents to Submit Employee ULD Handling Certification by 5 September 2019 – Validation – Repeated  

Further to the item in last week’s AFIF Weekly News, regarding the IATA letter and attachments sent to IATA Cargo Agents. If an IATA Cargo Agent handles the loading of ULDs - complete the details of the certified staff in the ‘Agent LDR’ Excel attachment provided by IATA and return the form to IATA. If an IATA Cargo Agent doesn’t handle the loading of ULDs - sign the ‘Self-declaration of non-handling ULD Agent’ attachment provided by IATA and return the form to IATA. Up to $7,000 Available for Women’s Leadership Development – Repeated

Women and Leadership Australia is once again offering women currently working in the transport and logistics sector the opportunity to register their interest in a scholarship worth up to $7,000 to support participation in a leadership development program.  Details in Weekly News

IATA – May Air Freight Volumes Remain Weak 

IATA released data for global air freight markets showing that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometres (FTKs), decreased by 3.4% in May 2019, compared to the same period in 2018. This was a slight improvement on the 5.6% contraction in April.  Asia-Pacific airlines saw demand for air freight contract by a hefty 6.4% in May 2019, compared to the same period in 2018. Boeing 737 Max Crisis May Extend into Next Year – Boeing Forced to Use Employee Parking lot to Store Grounded 737 Max Planes 

Boeing faces the very real possibility that the 737 Max crisis will stretch into next year. Experts have been expecting that the planes could be back in the air by August, but Boeing will have to delay its efforts because a new potential problem with the jet has been discovered during testing. Boeing is storing 500 grounded 737 Max jets around the world, including 100 at a factory in Renton, WA.  keeping the planes next to employees’ vehicles in the company parking lot. FIATA World Congress 2019 Capetown

The FIATA World Congress will be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa and will bring together global leaders, a comprehensive program and sessions by industry leaders, presenting innovative and relevant discussions. The 2019 Congress theme is "Where Technology and Logistics Meet" and the Congress Program will focus on new technology and disruptive innovation and how this affects the Logistics and Freight Forwarding Industry worldwide. IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Training Validity/Expiry   

If you or your staff hold IMDG Certification under IMDG Code 2016, the expiry date is 31st December 2019 - then you must complete a 1 day IMDG Re-certification course BEFORE 31 December 2019, to remain certified.  Failure to do so will require undertaking the 2 day IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Full Acceptance Course.
