AFIF 2017 National Conference: May 10-12 – Registration Open!

On behalf of the AFIF Board and the organising sub-committee we are delighted to announce that the Registration is now open for the AFIF 2017 National Conference at the RACV Royal Pines Resort Gold Coast, Queensland from Wednesday 10th – Friday 12th May 2017.

The 2017 Program is ready and we are sure that the 2017 meeting will not disappoint as the committee have prepared an engaging, topical, interactive conference. It’s shaping up to be the annual industry event not to be missed and we’re hoping to see you there! Details in Weekly News

Aircargo Security – update

There are a number of unresolved matters resulting from the transitioning of most former ‘RACA’ freight forwarder businesses into the ‘AACA’ scheme. AFIF has had discussions with senior representatives from the CTO group to obtain clarity of requirements, particularly around the cargo handover point. We have also sought clarity from the Office of Transport Security (OTS) and have facilitated further discussions to resolve these issues. Details in Weekly News.

Competition Law Issues highlighted by Recent Aviation Case

A recent price fixing prosecution in the aviation industry provides a timely reminder and up-to-date guidance on what conduct will fall foul of competition laws in the shipping and logistics sectors.  We thank Nathan Cecil, Transport Law specialist at Holding Redlich Lawyers, for sharing this article, which we commend to our members as important reading.  Details in Weekly News

DAWR - Suspension of Uncooked Prawns update

DAWR is currently conducting a number of activities to ensure the risk of white spot disease (and other prawn diseases) entering and establishing in Australia is appropriately managed. The Director of Biosecurity has agreed to exempt a number of Prawn products from the suspension. The Prawn Suspension Q&A webpage has been updated. Full details in the Weekly News.

FIATA Questionnaire - The Growth of Freight Consignments via e-commerce - reminder

FIATA has prepared a questionnaire to assess the growth of freight consignments through eCommerce platforms. The questionnaire will help identify some of the challenges faced by our industry when working with eCommerce merchants to trade freight products. Survey link in the Weekly News

2nd IATA Global Shipper Survey - reminder

IATA has launched the 2nd IATA Global Shipper Survey to local shippers, freight forwarders and Associations.  IATA is surveying the perceptions, experiences and expectations of shippers’ when using air to transport their goods. This will help IATA to better understand this key constituent in the cargo chain and help improve the services provided. Survey link in the Weekly News

The 2017, 58th Edition of the DGR and associated products are now available and the 57th edition is now out of date! There are a large number of changes in the new edition of the IATA DGR Manual so make sure you order your new copy to reflect these changes.
