Thursday, 6 September , 2007 Update on the Effect on Sydney Ports of APEC Leaders ForumDear Firstname,
We have received a summary update of information from Sydney Ports and the Cargo Facilitation Committee in regard to the current situation around the Ports, including a forecast for the next few days.
Members should note the following and the summary attachment below: Sydney Ports and the Sydney Ports Cargo Facilitation Committee would like to take the opportunity to remind industry of arrangements in place for the APEC Leaders Forum from 7 September to 9 September 2007. For Sydney Harbour, there will be some changes to marine operations during this period. For Port Botany, port operations will generally remain unaffected during this period. Port Botany continues to experience record container throughput, with the APEC public holiday placing additional pressure on port operations. Both stevedores are expecting 11 vessel visits each over the next four days and the task to move containers to/from the terminal is substantial. The stevedoring terminals at Port Botany have implemented their normal public holiday weekend arrangements and are encouraging the transport operators to make use of the available vehicle booking system (VBS) timeslots on the Friday and Saturday to reduce the number of containers held in the terminals. Both stevedores' roadside operational capacity will be severely tested on the Monday morning (10 September 2007). Truck turnaround times can be expected to be higher than normal for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (10-12 September 2007). Sydney Ports and the Sydney Ports Cargo Facilitation Committee strongly recommends that the carriers give consideration to using the available VBS slots on the weekend. General information on APEC and arrangements during the Leaders Forum can be obtained from www.apec2007.org Traffic information during the APEC Leaders Forum can be obtained from www.rta.nsw.gov.au Port specific information is available in the attached Holiday Arrangements document which was previously distributed to industry by the Sydney Ports Cargo Facilitation Committee.
