US TSA Seeking Stricter Controls on International Cargo

We understand that at TIACA's Air Cargo Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Ed Kelly, of the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that the agency will now seek to apply the screening mandates set by the 9/11 Act to international inbound cargo as well. This means the deadlines of February 2009 for 50% screening of cargo shipped on passenger airlines and August 2010 for 100% screening would apply to shipments inbound to the United States, as well as to flights originating from U.S. airports. The full article can be viewed at TIACA's website. Click here for more information.

Please advise all concerned.

Thank you
