Monday, March 6, 2006 CMR Compensation Claims Dear Firstname, Further to previous information on this subject, customs have advised that despite receiving a number of requests for claim forms, they have received very few actual claims. We are conscious that the claim process, as advised previously, is highly detailed and complex and is designed to eradicate false or gratuitous claims. We believe that it is important that you encourage your customers to lodge claims where they have paid you storage and / or container detention charges as a result of ICS Import delays . We also suggest that you insist that your bills to your clients for these charges should be paid. The second issue arises as to consequential losses by forwarders / brokers and this aspect is being addressed by both AFIF and CBFCA at the top level within Customs and the Ministry and we will advise progress on this matter in due course. If you have not received the standard claim form from Customs, please send them an email at customsclaims@customs.gov.au or by fax to (02) 6275 6720. Please note there is NOT a deadline for these claims to Customs as may have been intimated. Thanks and regards,Brian Lovell Chief Executive Officer Australian Federation of International Forwarders Ltd (AFIF) Suite 403, Level 3 152 Bunnerong Road Eastgardens NSW 2036 Tel: (61 2) 9314 3055 Fax: (61 2) 9314 3116 |
