Tuesday, July 27, 2004 Advance Aircargo Reporting for US Customs - piece count Dear {Firstname}, AFIF is investigating whether it will continue to be feasible to send shipper loaded skids into the USA by air, due to the requirement of the US Customs (AAMS) system to receive from the air carrier, the shipper load and count (SLAC) as declared on the Housebill.
For example: a skid with 20 cartons would have to be shown on the housebill as 20 pieces regardless of how it was received by the forwarder, then broken down and presented to the CTO as the same.
This then brings into focus all sort of questions over legal liability, not forgetting increased risk of damage / pillage or loss.
AFIF is seeking clarification from the carriers, IATA and from US Customs via FIATA and will report back to members once the matter has been resolved. Thanks and regards , |
