International Cargo Transport Security

Dear {Firstname},

As previously advised to all members and mentioned at our AGM on November 25th, major changes to air cargo security will come into effect on 10th March 2005 when the new

Aviation Transport Security Act 2004 and its accompanying regulations come into force.

You may have already seen the government notice in newspapers on Saturday, however please click here to view the fact sheet relevant to air cargo operators handlers and carriers who are existing “regulated agents”.

Most importantly existing international cargo regulated agents who also handle and make arrangements for domestic air cargo will need to document and implement a domestic cargo security measures program by 24th February 2005.

If you only make arrangements for international air cargo you will need to confirm this to the department by 24th February 2005 and over the course of the next two years submit a new transport security program to be developed in accordance with guidelines prepared by the office of transport security, in consultation with the air cargo industry.

On this last point, AFIF will be working hard to ensure that this is not a large cost and time impost on our industry and we will communicate progress to you.
