ACCC Final Report & Recommendation on AADA
(Asia-Australia Discussion Agreement)

Dear Member,

Further to previous advice regarding our submission to the ACCC on the Asia-Australia Discussion Agreement (AADA) -for International Liner Cargo Shipping, please find attached a letter from the ACCC outlining their decision to recommend to the Minister for Transport & Regional Services that the registration of the AADA should NOT be revoked.

The accompanying 'Key Messages' document details the key points in making this determination and they clearly outline concerns with the exemption, whilst stating that these may not be sufficient grounds for recommending de-registration.

At the same time the Government's principal review and advisory body for micro-economic policy and regulation  - the Productivity Commission - has commenced it's review of the Part X exemption to Section IV of the Trade Practices Act and AFIF is currently in the process of preparing a submission to that enquiry.

Should any of our members like to comment, either individually or through AFIF, we can make the commission's Terms of Reference available to you.

Thanks and regards
