Monday, 21 June 2004, CBFCA/AFIF Collaborative Training with Customs Dear Member, As previously announced, the Australian Federation of International Forwarders (AFIF) and the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia Inc (CBFCA) have joined forces together with the Australian Customs Service (Customs) to deliver collaborative refresher training for the Exports release of CMR. Customs have finalised the dates for the sessions. Please click here to view. The sessions will be delivered as a three-hour presentation with the first two hours being facilitated by Customs and the final hour being a facilitated panel involving experienced industry personnel who will be able to provide valuable practical information and then answer questions as part of a Q&A session. Who should attend these sessions? These sessions are designed for those industry members who attended the individual AFIF or CBFCA presentations held last year between July and September. If a company or an individual has had no exposure to any previous information on CMR Exports they may choose to attend the Customs only sessions which are entitled "Exports Business Changes". Of course should they choose to do so, industry members may choose to attend BOTH sessions to receive a wide ranging exposure to the key issues affecting them. The refresher sessions facilitated by Customs and industry are designed to appeal to operational staff and managers across a range of issues and will provide for a full Q & A opportunity with a panel of experienced industry personnel. What is the difference between the industry supported sessions and the Customs 'only' sessions? The industry associations have combined their extensive experience and resources to bring to attendees an in-depth analysis of the issues as industry see they affect business processes. These sessions move beyond the legislative changes and look at the real practical, day-to-day issues that will affect industry from the commencement of the cutover to the Integrated Cargo System (ICS) under Exports. The emphasis is on real world solutions and will assist business in making some of the key decisions that will be critical for their successful implementation and utilisation of the ICS from 6 October 2004. What is the cost of the sessions? AFIF and the CBFCA have made a joint submission to the Tradegate Development Fund for specific funding to develop the sessions. This will allow experienced presenters to deliver the sessions around Australia in the major capital cities FREE OF CHARGE to industry. If Tradegate accepts this submission, it will mean that industry can send as many of their staff as possible to ensure a full and complete coverage of the key issues by all personnel. Note there will be a number of sessions in each location so companies will have the chance to stagger their staff attendance across different sessions and various locations as required. What will attendees take away from these sessions? It is anticipated that attendees will walk away from the collaborative industry/Customs sessions with the correct balance of legislative, regulatory and practical business information to make informed decisions about CMR. All attendees at the sessions will be provided with a fully bound, professionally presented reference guide which will be a tremendous single point of reference resource for the future as the CMR exports cutover commences. How do I register for a combined Customs/industry session? The Customs online booking facility will be functional in the coming weeks. If you wish to register now, do so via email cmr@customs.gov.au, or phone 1800 022 267, and provide the name of the session, state, city, date, and time of the session along with your name, your company's name, contact phone number, contact email address and the number of people who will attend the session.
