Notice of AFIF Annual General Meeting 2019 – Thursday 21 November 2019

Nominations for a Position on the Board of Directors close on Friday 8 November 2019      

The Annual General Meeting of the Federation for 2019 will be held from 4.30pm on Thursday, November 21st, 2019, at the Bonnie Doon Golf Club, Banks Avenue, Pagewood, NSW 2035.

Refreshments and finger food will be served from around 5.30pm.

To deliver the full benefit of AFIF, your Industry body, we appreciate the participation of all members, both at the forthcoming AGM and by direct participation in the Association's activities.

If you are interested in pursuing a direct involvement in your representative body, please consider the areas that interest your organisation and whether you can assist one of the various portfolio sub-committees that exist to benefit our industry as a whole.

Please note that any nomination for positions on the Board of Directors must be received at the AFIF Secretariat office no later than close of business on Friday 8th November 2019.

Melbourne CTO Delays – dnata & Menzies Aviation Update

Melbourne members will be aware of the ongoing delays in retrieving and delivering cargo at dnata and Menzies Aviation terminals in the past 2 weeks. At certain peak times delays have extended to several hours. AFIF has been in contact with a number of AFIF members and spoken at length with management at both CTOs. The common issue appears to be related to fluctuating business volumes and aligning staffing levels. dnata and Menzies Aviation Senior Management have provided statements to AFIF and details on rectification action underway - details including AFIF Comment in Weekly News

DoA – BMSB – 200 Offshore Treatments Rejected – Onshore Treatment Required - or if Unsuitable, Re-exported

AFIF has been advised of a significant number of containers treated by some offshore treatment providers for BMSB seasonal measures, have been rejected by DoA. The container numbers of the affected consignments are listed in DoA IAN 174-2019   DoA expects further consignments now on the water to be affected and will add the containers numbers to future Industry Advice Notices. DoA – BMSB Safeguarding Arrangements Scheme

Safeguarding arrangements were developed by DoA in conjunction with the industry participants, to enable importers with a demonstrated secure supply chain to manage biosecurity and seasonal hitchhiker pest risk offshore, from the point of manufacture to the point of embarkation in line with eligibility criteria. 13 Participants are at various stages of processing applications through to approval. 2 Participants have been approved for Safeguarding Arrangements. ABF – ICS Access Issues - Microsoft Windows Update

AFIF Members have reported issues with accessing ICS functions. The issue is related to some versions of a Microsoft Windows 10 security update impacting ICS inoperability. ABF – Consultation on 'Australia's Maturation Requirements for Certain Unmatured Imported Alcohol' – MEL & BNE Sessions Next Week - Book Now

ABF administers requirements for the importation of alcohol into Australia under the Customs Act 1901.  Currently, brandy, whisky or rum cannot be imported into Australia unless it has been matured in wood for a period of at least two years Further to earlier advice about consultation by the Australian Border Force on Australia’s maturation requirements for imported alcohol, dates have now been set for consultation sessions being held around Australia. Hutchison Ports SICTL Sydney – Landside Closure 5.11.19 - MUA Picnic Day

Hutchison Ports advise the SICTL Terminal Yard Shifts from 0600HRS 5.11 to 0600HRS 6.11 will not be in Operation due to MUA Picnic Day. Notice in Weekly News

Hutchison Ports Sydney Infrastructure Levy Revision Effective 18 November

Hutchison Ports Sydney will increase the infrastructure levy from $35.84 to $63.11 + GST for all full containers received or delivered via SICTL Port Botany - effective 18 November 2019. Link to the full list of Landside Charges in Weekly News.

AFIF Training – Not for Profit - by the Industry, for the Industry

Reminder – IATA Requires IATA Cargo Agents to Submit Employee ULD Handling Certification, or non-Handling Declaration Deadline 30 September Passed – Non-Compliance Action Commenced

In June, AFIF advised members that IATA had written to all IATA Cargo Agents handling Unit Load Devices (ULDs) to submit details of employees holding a valid ULD Certificate - or a non-handling declaration - by 5 September 2019. IATA issued a Notice to IATA Cargo Agents advising the final deadline for submission of the details, 30 September 2019. Non-compliance will trigger IATA action, with the Cargo Agent placed on review by the Cargo Agency Commissioner. Details in Weekly News

AFIF Adds More Load Distribution and Restraint Training Course Dates

AFIF is adding more dates for the IATA compliant Load Distribution and Restraint Training Course, for Members requiring to update staff training certification to meet IATA compliance requirements. Bookings can be made on the AFIF Training weblink - Load Distribution and Restraint Course

IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Training Validity/Expiry   

If you or your staff hold IMDG Certification under IMDG Code 2016, the expiry date is 31st December 2019 - then you must complete a 1 day IMDG Re-certification course BEFORE 31 December 2019, to remain certified.  Failure to do so will require undertaking the 2 day IMDG (Dangerous Goods by Sea) Full Acceptance Course.
